Woven portrait



by way of the early nineteenth century, many weaving looms used punched cards to manipulate and decide the woven sample. Joseph-Marie Jacquard (pictured right here), a French weaver and service provider, evolved the mechanical Jacquard loom, which was managed by way of a "chain" of punched playing cards in series. The playing cards allowed for an limitless range of styles. This portrait of Jacquard became woven on a Jacquard loom using heaps of punched cards.
